There have been a lot of discussions from some "people" regarding my Eléazar, at this point I believe I heard it all.
Most of the time I heard that he is silver and the other is that he would be Sunshine/Bimetal (this is from breeders with very low knowledge of color and genetics of course).
I've been accused of refusing to re-register him and have been said to firmly deny this, well I will show you, why I do not change him right now.
Without DNA we can't really prove anything, I sent samples to China but they must have gone lost on the way or something because it's been a very long time without any sign of them even arriving. Well, I have to send it in again, I'm just trying to decide if I will go with China again or if I will try the other test.
I'm not afraid to admit when I'm wrong IF I'm wrong. However, I will not color change a cat on the go just because some people who have not seen the cat at all or who have seen the cat once at 12 weeks of age decided that he is either silver or sunshine.
Right now he is registered as ny 11, which is the closest I can come to describe his color.
First of all, can we kill the discussion of him being Sunshine/Bimetal, one of the traits that shows that a cat is Sunshine/Bimetal is their PINK nose leather (the same pink as in a white, white spot or a red cat).
Below is a picture of Eleazar to the left and a Bimetallic to the right, I think we can all agree on the fact that Eleazar has a completely normal agouti nose leather, in the standard it also says that a Bimetallic has a white to off-white undercoat and appear primarily silver with distinct "areas" of pale gold. That is not the case with Eleazar.
As a kitten, Eleazar did look like silver sometimes and a black/golden tabby other times, I actually almost changed him before adding the registration papers but changed my mind before adding them since I realized that even though I could not say for sure what he was at that point I could tell that at least it did not look like silver.
20210421 - Pictures above show Eleazar 1 week old he has a very pale beige, apricot tone to him, he does not look silver at all though he does not look black tabby either. | |
20210729 - It's hard to catch on the photo but at this point, it started to show, that the bottom of his fur was beige and not white and that the tipping was 1/3. |
20210821 - He still looked a lot like silver in photos and some lights. |
20211009 - In this photo it's more obvious that he is more beige it also shows the broken rings on the legs. | 20211015 - In this picture you can see Eleázar beside a very warm ticked tabby. In this picture, it's very obvious that he is at least, definitely not phenotypical silver. |
20211022 - In this picture Eleazar together with a non agouti blue (a). | 20211113 - Eleazar together with a Black classic tabby |
20211202 - Here is the development of the bottom, still very hard to get the correct tone in photos, its a very beige tone very cold but not white and not grey. Tipping is 1/3. | 20211228 - Another picture of Eleazar beside his great-grandfather Chester on the left (black silver ticked tabby), a Cremesilver classic tabby on the right, and Eleazar in the middle. |
20220220 - Eleazar beside a Black classic tabby white. | 20220430 - Another photo that is a bit more close to his true color. A huge difference compared to the photos of him when he was very young but it's still very hard to catch his real color in photos. |
20220503 - At the bottom Eleazar, on top from the left a black classic tabby, a black silver classic tabby, and a very, very warm black ticked tabby. | 20221220 - Eleazar in a good light, I think this photo is one of the closest to showing his actual color. Every time I take the studio out with the studio lights he becomes so greyish. |
20230423 . A photo of the bottom of his coat, do you see any silver? | 20230528 - Another photo of the bottom of his fur. |
20230619 - Eleaazar at the top and Lyon Black silver classic tabby at the bottom | 20230625 - Another photo of the bottom of the fur! |
20230625 - Yet another photo of Eleazar | 20240312 - Last picture before he moved to his new family to enjoy life as a neuter. Once again I used the studio lights and he immediately got more greyish than he normally is. |
Looking at all the pictures above it's quite easy to understand why I did not register him as silver.
I tried to mate him only with non-silver females just to try to learn more, he had two females "looking" silver just like he did himself as a kitten one a bit more and one a bit less.
Both those females were born in a litter where I mated him to another confirmed wideband cat.

Eleazar had a last litter with Dieney, but that litter is not added here, Dieney is homozygous Silver so all kittens are silver and would have been no matter what father they would have.
